The Gamma Rho Chapter closed our Spring Food Drive in June with a strong showing of community generosity, delivering 1,259 pounds of canned goods and non-perishable food items to Second Harvest Food Bank of Greater New Orleans, the region’s largest anti-hunger network. The drive combined direct donations of food items with $900 in monetary contributions, which the chapter used to purchase additional staples to round out the donation. Community support extended well beyond the chapter’s own membership: Bro. Dr. Joseph Dyson’s church, staff of the Louisiana Supreme Court, and supporters at the Foundation House all stepped up with contributions that helped push the drive’s final numbers past expectations.

Second Harvest works year-round to fight hunger across South Louisiana, supplying food pantries, senior commodity boxes, mobile markets, and disaster response efforts throughout the Greater New Orleans region. Every can and box collected during the Spring Food Drive will move through that network and onto the tables of neighbors who need it most.

The success of this drive is a reminder of what’s possible when the chapter’s Social Action efforts extend into the broader community. From the pulpit to the courthouse to the neighborhood, brothers and friends of Gamma Rho showed that the fight against hunger is one everyone can take part in. We were able to replenish the depleted local food pantry that serves the Westbank of New Orleans.
